A young family is mourning after a beloved nurse and father-of-two from Bundaberg passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
Leigh Morris died on Sunday night, November 3rd, leaving behind his wife Danielle and their two children Kody and Parker.
His mum Anne-Maree Morris said her son was into gaming growing up, much to her “dismay”, but she let it go after he graduated high school with honours.
“He was just a wonderful young man in every way,” Ms Morris said.
“I would like to thank everyone for their kind contributions to help Dani, Kodie and Parker and anything will help move forward a little without my dear Leigh,” Ms Morris said.
Friends and family have described him as a gentleman with a warm smile, a positive outlook, and a heart of gold.
Friend of the family Felicity Shepherd has launched a GoFundMe to help support them during this difficult time.
“He was a kind and compassionate nurse, board game aficionado, animal lover, and lover of travel,” Ms Shepherd said.
The funds raised will help cover Leigh’s funeral expenses, with any additional funds going toward supporting Mrs Morris as she navigates the loss of her husband.
Mrs Morris now faces financial burden from transitioning from two incomes to one, and donations will assist with any unpaid leave from works, moving costs, and ongoing living expenses.
The campaign has already raised $35,134 out of the initial $35,000 goal.
Ms Shepherd updated the campaign’s target to include additional expenses, and to ensure the boys can enjoy Christmas as much as possible despite the loss of their father.
“Please continue to share with friends of Leigh and Danielle who may not have seen this,” Ms Shepherd wrote in a recent update.
“If Leigh were here/could see your generosity, I’m sure he’d really appreciate everyone taking care of his wife and children in his absence.”
Ross Wein, a friend of Mr Morris, expressed his sadness in a touching tribute on Facebook.
“Going to miss our Chats! You always had that awesome smile and just such a gentleman,” he said.
Kerrie Sampson also paid tribute, calling him an “absolute gem of a person”.
