Nearly 20 graffiti tags have been spread across the Bargara Esplanade overnight, defacing walls, the ground, seats, and public barbecues days before Easter school holidays and the arrival of tourists escaping cooler weather in other states.
Division 5 Bundaberg councillor Larine Statham-Blair condemned the vandalism, describing it as “senseless”.
“I am absolutely lost for words,” she said.
“The people responsible are clearly not too bright!
“By ‘tagging’ or writing names, you can be identified by degrees of separation/association.
“Police were recently able to identify hoons who have been tearing through Bargara parks.
“As well as being charged with a range of dangerous driving offences, they will be prosecuted for wilful damage to council property.
“Let’s hope the same can happen here with the help of private and public CCTV footage along the esplanade. I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for people with red paint on their fingers!”
Richard Gonzalez commented on the post saying it was a shame “and people wonder why there are cameras everywhere these days”.
Candy Spencer said the find was very disappointing.
“These are shared public spaces for all to enjoy and they have been ruined.
“The trashing of a disability toilet is a low act; as if people who need them need more inconvenience.
“Hopefully the culprits are caught quickly,” she said.
Authorities are expected to review security footage in the area as investigations continue.
