After facing a match-fixing probe last week, Bernard Tomic has emerged from his Gold Coast mansion seemingly relaxed and focused on climbing the rankings.

Controversial tennis star Bernard Tomic hasn’t given up hope of resurrecting his flailing career, emerging from his latest drama ready to tackle the practice courts in his home town on the Gold Coast.

Just a day after reports emerged that Tomic had been questioned as part of a probe into possible tennis match-fixing, the former world No. 17 was spotted leaving his family’s luxury Gold Coast mansion with tennis gear slung over his shoulder.

Now ranked outside the world’s top 200, Tomic lost in the first round of qualifying at the Australian Open, going down 6-3, 6-1 to Slovakian Jozef Kovalik to crush hopes of playing his first Grand Slam tournament since 2021.

It was a loss during qualifying at the 2022 Australian Open which attracted the attention of investigators who allegedly noticed unusual betting activity over Tomic’s 6-1, 6-4 loss to Russian Roman Safiulin and flagged similar suspicions over a match in Turkey several months earlier.

Tomic was interviewed by police as part of Strike Force Whyman and in a separate probe by the International Tennis Integrity Agency, but investigators did not uncover enough evidence to proceed with the case.

There is no suggestion Tomic committed any offence.

The bombshell burst into the spotlight on Friday in an explosive report by Nine Newspapers.

Tomic has so far declined to comment on the drama, but he looked relaxed as he emerged from his family’s waterfront mansion on the Gold Coast bright and early on Saturday morning dressed in training clothes with a tennis bag over his shoulder.

Unlike the heady days of his time in the world top 20 when he zoomed around the Glitter Strip in flash sports cars, Tomic drove off in a working class tradie ute.

The humble wheels are also more in line with players who spend their time toiling on the unglamorous lower tiers of the world tennis circuit, unlike the days when Tomic made millions and contested the game’s most prestigious tournaments.

His father John later emerged from the home but was in no mood to chat to The Sunday Mail and did not comment on the match-fixing controversy.
