It’s as Aussie as Anzac Day and it’s set to deliver a massive windfall to Queensland’s tourism sector.
With the sacred Anzac Day falling on a Tuesday this year, vast numbers of travellers are turning the holiday into a four-day weekend which is set to inject more than $150m into the state economy.
Anzac Day fell on a Monday last year, with the long weekend generating an estimated $110m and 393,000 visitor nights.
Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said people could even stretch it to a five-day break to enjoy autumn’s final fling before the onset of the colder months.
“An investment of just two days’ annual leave makes recharging with a five-day Queensland getaway absolutely possible,” he said.
Nestled in the Gold Coast hinterland at Tallebudgera Valley, Jandarra Hipcamp is perfectly positioned to cater to those looking for a quick escape over a long weekend.
Hipcamp marketing manager Brooke Wood said bookings were strong for the unofficial long weekend “with more Aussies taking the Monday off to extend their long weekend outdoor getaway”.
