Queensland teachers are set to reject a pay offer from the state government, with the sector’s union labelling the latest deal “disappointing”.

The new three-year wage offer from the government would give teachers a 3 year pay bump from July, then 2.5 per cent in 2026 and again in 2027.

Education Department director-general Sharon Schimming, in an email on Thursday, told teachers the pay offer had been made after 14 formal meetings with union representatives.

“This offer also aims to create a replacement agreement that is easy to navigate, has a focus on employee entitlements, is clearer and more accessible for principals and senior leaders to understand their industrial obligations and supports greater workforce flexibility,” she said.

“Alongside these important initiatives, the Queensland Government has signed up to the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement – Full and Fair Funding, which secures funding for Queensland state schools that will build over the next 10 years.”

In the email, Ms Schimming said the department requested a response to its offer from the union by July 14, 2025.

But in a post on Facebook, the Queensland Teachers Union (QTU) said the offer from the Crisafulli government was an “affront to Queensland teachers and school leaders across the state”.

It is expected the QTU will formally reject the deal within days.

“The offer lifts the lid on the government’s true disdain for education professionals and Union members,” the post stated.

“With only a matter of days to go until their current agreement expires, QTU members are stronger, more united, and more determined than ever to be valued and respected for their profession – educating Queensland students.”

“If you are yet to join your colleagues in the crucial fight to secure fair conditions and salaries for your profession and the future of education in Queensland, there has never been a more urgent time to do so.”

Unionised teachers were already due to march on Parliament on Tuesday afternoon after the state budget, with the pay offer set to now take centre stage in their demands.
