Inspirational Leah Kilner has got back on the horse – quite literally – as a river of “happy tears” were shed in emotional scenes.
Less than four months ago, the Queensland jockey was so seriously injured in a shocking Grafton race fall it was feared she may not survive.

But her miracle and uplifting recovery has continued to the point where she was able to ride again this week.
Kilner may not ever ride in races again but it was a massive moment when she and fellow Queensland jockeys Stephanie Thornton and Tegan Harrison went riding in the Gold Coast hinterland this week.
Kilner was only allowed to walk her horse, a pony called Julio, but it was an extraordinarily emotional moment in time.
“The doctors said no racehorses, but I didn’t hear them say no to pony rides,” Kilner said.
“As a kid, I was always taught to get back on if you fell off and this was me getting back on.
“I was strictly only allowed to walk, but the feeling I got from being back on a horse was unbelievable.
“I can’t thank Tegan Harrison and Stephanie Thornton and my trusty steed enough for this.”
Kilner’s Mum, Siobhan Jackson, said seeing her daughter back on horseback again was pure magic.
“They only walked but it was just magic, Leah is still smiling.
“I’ve now watched the video of it about 1000 times and every time I cry.
“It was so perfect for Leah.
“There were a lot of happy tears.”
On November 19, the Brisbane Racing Club is hosting a gala night for Kilner to raise funds for her continuing recovery.
The function will be at St Leger Lawn Marquee, Eagle Farm, and be hosted by television and radio personality Pat Welsh and racing broadcaster Lizzie Jelfs.
Proceeds raised will go directly to Kilner to assist her on the journey ahead.
