Brisbane AC/DC fans could be thunderstruck tonight, with potential storms forecast to hit the city right as the much-anticipated concert begins.

Severe thunderstorms are predicted across South East Queensland this afternoon as humid air hangs over the region, producing unstable conditions throughout the day and into the night.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Baden Gilbert said the risk of severe thunderstorms was concentrated around the Lockyer Valley, with a chance of them moving towards Brisbane and the Gold Coast later in the afternoon.

“Severe storms are more likely to be inland towards the Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Border Ranges, so places like Gatton, Laidley and Beaudesert could be impacted,” Mr Gilbert said.

“As you get closer to the coast that risk does drop off a bit, but it’s not zero per cent.

“For Brisbane City, storms would be most likely in the early evening, around 5 or 6pm.”

Multiple severe thunderstorm warnings were issued over a three-hour period from 5.30pm, but by 8.50pm had died down.

Mr Gilbert said these potential storms could bring heavy rainfall, thunder and lightning to the Brisbane region.

“We know this forecast will be of particular interest to people going to the AC/DC concert – especially the lightning risk – so we will be watching the radar and giving updates going into this afternoon.”

The band touched down at Brisbane Airport on Saturday afternoon via private jet, where they were met on the tarmac by a security detail and six chauffeured vehicles before being swiftly whisked away to their hotel.
