A group of youths who carjacked a man in Hyde Park and took it on a joyride across the city are now assisting police with an investigation.
The ute that was stolen on Tuesday afternoon was recovered in West End after police used a tyre deflation device.
Police say the ute was stolen between 3:45pm and 4:05pm on Tuesday afternoon.
No charges have been laid.
Mhar Panelo Thompson posted to the Everything Townsville Facebook page asking people to be on the lookout for the white Isuzu D-Max, which was her husband’s car.
She said her husband was loading his ute with his work tools when the group “pushed him over” and tried to run him over while taking off in the car.
The car was spotted later at the intersection of Ogden Street and Stanley Street, with one resident sharing a picture of the car saying “3 to 4 kids” were inside with their “faces covered”.
A police spokesperson said at around 7:45pm police intercepted the D-Max using a tyre deflation device and the vehicle was later found abandoned in Nix Street, West End.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the vehicle being dumped in Nix Street or anyone who has dashcam of the vehicle to come forward to police.
