Push for link between Grantham and highway

THE Lockyer Valley Regional Council is putting a case to the State Government for the construction of an all-weather exit connecting Grantham with the Warrego Highway.

THE Lockyer Valley Regional Council is putting a case to the State Government for the construction of an all-weather exit connecting Grantham with the Warrego Highway.

Mayor Steve Jones said council was given a guarantee from the former Bligh Labor Government the connection would be constructed but ran into a hurdle with the change of government.

"We were given an assurance that the connection would be built with some level of urgency as part of the redevelopment of the Strengthening Grantham Estate but agreed to the request of the Newman Government to delay the project following the 2012 state election," he said.

"Unfortunately, it seems the State have forgotten their commitment to the people of the Lockyer Valley.

"I was mortified to hear the government recently built a multi-million dollar bypass west of Toowoomba with funding earmarked for our project.

"I was advised that funding had been earmarked for the construction of our access however to date we haven't seen a single bit of progress on the project," he said.

"I will be writing to the relevant minister demanding the State get serious about funding this lifesaving piece of infrastructure."
