POLICE are searching for a man wanted over a fuel drive-off theft at Cambooya.

Store CCTV recorded a man driving to the fuel bowser at the New England Highway business at Cambooya and pumped diesel.

Police said the man got back into the vehicle and drove off without making any effort to pay for the fuel about 9.05am on July 28.

"A witness said the vehicle approached the petrol station from the direction of Warwick and the driver has driven off in the direction of Toowoomba," police said.

The Mitsubishi Pajero had one NSW registration plate ZEN442 on the front, and no rear number plate.
