Servo worker allegedly assaulted in Top End robbery

July 8: A Top End servo worker has had a horror night after a group of males allegedly assaulted them after they attempted to rob the place – with the staff member locking them inside in an attempt to stop them, Northern Territory police say.

Police said they were called to the United Service station on Katherine Terrace at 2.51am to respond to a group of males allegedly trying to leave the store without paying for goods.

The clerk behind the counter locked the doors in a bid to stop them from leaving – a move which police said led the staff member to being allegedly assaulted by the alleged thief and the two men who were with him at the time.

The men then pried open the doors to leave, police said.

However, two of the men alleged to be involved in the incident were tracked down, according to police, who said they were arrested and taken into custody.

Police said CCTV and the Joint Emergency Service Communication Centre team helped identify the alleged offenders.

Police are urging anyone with more information to get in contact via 131 444, quoting reference P24181867.

Anonymous reports can also be made through Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1800 33 000.
