The “watch and act” alert was issued for Tmara Mara Ct and Battarbee St in Araluen while Larapinta Dr was also included.

By 4.35pm, the threat level was again reduced to a “decreasing threat” by the Territory’s fire and rescue services.

Northern Territory Fire and rescue acting district officer Jo-Anna Kenny said the afternoon’s gusty conditions were proving a challenge.

“While the fire has definitely died down, we’re actively monitoring those spots because we don’t want anything else to flare up,” she said.

Talking to this masthead at 4.25pm, she said there had been no damage to homes but the fire was “close to the backs of people homes”.

“I encourage people, obviously residents, with the smoke in the area to close their windows closed, their doors (closed), keep inside,” she said.
