Plans for 7-Eleven in Highfields anger residents

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week 7-Eleven at Highfields in a move that has angered residents.

A DEVELOPER has submitted plans for a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week 7-Eleven at Highfields in a move that has angered residents.

It comes after a similar application at the site at Cawdor Rd, Highfields was withdrawn last year.

Tied in with the application to Toowoomba Regional Council are plans to subdivide a lot into nearly 10,000m2 for "possible future residential use".

The proposal includes a service station shop, services and refuse storage area, mechanical plant area and underground fuel storage tanks.

There will be a fuel dispensing area including four refuelling islands capable of servicing up to eight vehicles and eight car parks.

Chris Hall's yard backs onto the site of the development and he's as opposed to the new application as the last one.

He said residents around the area were worried by the plans.

The old plans: Highfields residents incensed by service station plans

"Our concerns are the same as the previous application," he said.

"We don't think this kind of development belongs in this low residential area."

Mr Hall called for council to take the application to a full meeting before any decision was made.

He described the approval process as unbalanced.

"They've been working on this for months but we've been given 15 days to object."

Developer BluePoint Highfields was contacted for comment.
