THIEVES are accused of ransacking a woman's house while she was away on holidays and later returning to steal her car and destroy it.
The car was spray painted and a fire extinguisher was used inside in an attempt to destroy any evidence, leaving the woman without a car with which to take her children to school.
On the morning of January 14 two people allegedly forced entry into the back of the house and stole items.
Later that day the same address was broken into and a car was stolen.
Senior Constable Penny Moloney from Toowoomba Police said two locals, a man and a woman both in their 20s had been charged in relation to the morning burglary.
"Inquiries are still being conducted into the afternoon incident," she said.
The woman living at the home said the car was sighted a couple of times by friends before police found it in its current state yesterday.
It had been spray painted and a fire extinguisher sprayed inside.
"Apparently the fire extinguisher gets rid of DNA evidence," the woman said.
"The biggest problem with all of this is that I purchased the car for $5000 almost three years ago and am insured for market value with a $1100 excess.
"This excess is so high to keep the premium at a lower price. We won't get much of a payout to buy another car."
