Bonded by blood and now business, two enthusiastic brothers have teamed up to create a luxurious boutique salon in the Garden City.

When Chrish Peterson, 17, and his brother Joel Peterson, 25, first spotted an empty shop on a busy Newtown street, they envisioned opening their own hairdressing salon together.

After signing the lease and completing a hands-on renovation, the co-owners opened their boutique salon in late August.

“I just found there was no (other salon) with my type of vibe,” Chrish said.

“Toowoomba doesn’t have any beaches around, so we wanted it to be a light and bright place for people to come in, unwind, relax and feel like they were on a coastal getaway.”

Previously serving as a home to two other salons and a convenience store since the construction of the building in the 90s, it took the pair six weeks to complete the stylish refurb.

During the construction phase and with the help of some of their tradie friends, the brothers installed four new recliner basins, eight styling stations and applied several coats of fresh paint.

With two years’ of experience as a hairdresser behind Chrish and Joel’s background in marketing and customer service, the duo realised their diverse skills made them the perfect pair.

And while the brothers are the best of friends, they also admit they are like most siblings who occasionally bicker, but it doesn’t take long to resolve the minor differences.

“Chrish is more creative, whereas I’m good with numbers and budgets and often need to tell him to stop spending money,” Joel said.

“But we balance each other out and Chrish has so much passion for hair – it really shows in his work.”

Chrish and Co is at 243 Bridge St, Newtown and is open Tuesdays to Saturdays.
