He was twice caught driving unregistered, uninsured cars with paper number plates.

DRIVING around in an unregistered, uninsured car with paper umber plates was always going to end less than well for Tyson Wayne Mitchell.

Police had pulled over the 28-year-old while driving in Wilsonton Heights about 2.15am, June 19, and found that the Victorian front and rear number plates were made of paper, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Mitchell also declared 5.9g of cannabis, an ice pipe, scissors and water pipe used for drugs as well, police prosecutor Sergeant Natalie Bugden said.

Two days later at 1am, June 21, a mobile patrol again pulled over Mitchell in Betty St, Newtown, and again he was found to be driving with false paper plates in an unregistered, uninsured car which he said he borrowed from a mate.

He was also found with 3g of cannabis.

He pleaded guilty to those charges as well as to driving with MDMA (ecstasy) in his system on July 31.

His solicitor Joe Millican said his client had grown up in Charleville where he had strong family ties but had been in Toowoomba for work.

His client needed a Blue Card for his job and Mr Millican asked that no conviction be recorded.

Magistrate Howard Osborne fined Mitchell a total $3250 and disqualified him from driving for three months and ordered the convictions not be recorded.
