Palmerston Golf and Country Club in Durack/Driver have once again found themselves the victims of vandals, as its course was deliberately defaced over the Easter weekend.

For the second time in a little over four months the course has been significantly torn up, causing extensive and expensive damage.

The club took to Facebook to express their displeasure.

“More damage by scooter riders on the course,” the post read, accompanied by five images of the damage.

In December 2024 the club’s second hole was destroyed by a motorbike that tore up the fairway and green.

Speaking to this masthead after the most recent spate of vandalism, the club’s general manager Matthew Hewer said holes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 8 were targeted.

Mr Hewer expressed his disdain, but said he believed it wasn’t worth pursuing with NT Police after the last incident in December.

“No (we have not contacted police), the last time that we reported this it turned out that the offenders (were) kids … can’t do anything,” Mr Hewer said.

He said the club often faced similar incidents of vandalism to varying degrees of severity.

“It has not stopped happening,” he said.

“(It) happens regularly.”

Mr Hewer told this masthead in December there was not much his club could do to prevent the damage.

“Obviously the golf course is way too big to put a fence around it, so it’s just something we have to cop and repair, there’s not a lot we can do about it,” he said.

“It’s pretty senseless, just ruining it for the golfers.”
