A new case of Covid-19 has been recorded on Palm Island, bringing the community’s tally to seven.

Queensland sees another record rise in COVID cases

A PALM Island Aboriginal Shire Council worker has tested positive for Covid-19, just days after the first case was discovered in the community.

Sources have told the Bulletin of the person tested positive using a rapid antigen test, bringing the total number of known cases on the island to seven.

It is understood the case will be confirmed through a PCR test.

There has been no new cases on Palm Island since Sunday, as testing capacities in the region are stretched.

While it is a short wait to be tested on Palm Island, the swabs are processed on the mainland.

The first case of Covid-19 was recorded on Palm Island on New Year’s Eve, with a further five cases recorded on Sunday.
