Oz Lotto 1633 $70 million draw: We asked ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude for the winning numbers

We asked the bots which numbers to pick for Tuesday night’s $70m lotto draw. Here’s how that prediction worked out.

Are these the winning $70M Oz Lotto numbers?

One lucky Australian won Tuesday night’s entire $70 million Oz Lotto jackpot, beating odds of one in 62,891,499 to become an instant multi-millionaire.

With a massive sum on the line, we had a crack at asking AI to help secure a quick and life changing payday, or even just help secure a slice of the pie.

There were a total of 1,134,330 prizes won across division two to seven, worth $26.38 million and last night’s prize pool included 20 division two prizes, each worth $48,365.75.

So, did the artificial mind of the machine help?

It said to avoid 25 – drawn 18 times – and 7, 15, 11, 20, 35, 26, each of which have been drawn 19 times.

The short answer; no.

The bot correctly guessed one number – 21 – but that’s where the good news ends.

The winning numbers were 44, 34, 45, 1, 46, 25, 21 and while AI delivered some good theories and tips on how to play, it did not prove helpful.

We asked a number of AIs – ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini.

ChatGPT analysed Oz Lotto statistics and found “hot” numbers but it warned to avoid 25 which was the sixth number drawn.

It suggested 21, 3, 24, 47, 30, 12, 37 as the best “hot” numbers.

It said not to use common birthdays or number patterns, because more people use those – which can result in you having to share if they come up.

But wait – that means you shouldn’t use the “hot” numbers, because more people will choose them, lowering your odds of a bigger win if they’re picked.

Gemini’s “hot” numbers were 47, 21, 28 and 33. Cold numbers it found were 34, 26, 45 and 43.

Claude was boringly sensible and largely advised avoiding wasting my money and didn’t want to predict any numbers.

Perplexity found hot numbers were 21, 3, 24, 47, 30, 5, 12 and 37.

We quizzed ChatGPT about the other AI responses.

It said the numbers all depended on what time frame each AI used but also, disappointingly and (completely correctly, in terms of actual maths) there’s no real such thing as a “hot number” and every number has the same odds.

The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said Tuesday night’s winner was in Victoria and might have gone to sleep not even knowing they won the jackpot.

“In addition to finishing the financial year with $70 million, this elusive winner goes down in Victorian history books with a prize only surpassed by the state’s two previous $80 million wins,” he said.

“Imagine going to bed tonight not knowing you’ve just won $70 million? That’s the reality for one Victorian player after scoring division one in tonight’s Oz Lotto draw.

“While the Victorian entry was purchased online, unfortunately, we don’t have their complete contact details, so we are unable to make a mind-blowing phone call to them this evening.

“That is why we are encouraging everyone in Victoria to check their entries because they may be the multi-millionaire we are searching for.”
