The trial of celebrity crocodile wrangler Matt Wright has been hit with an eleventh hour delay following ongoing legal arguments.
The Northern Territory reality television star appeared in the Supreme Court on Tuesday for a brief legal arguments hearing before Justice Alan Blow.
The 45-year-old celebrity on Monday pleaded not guilty to three counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice following the death of his co-star and friend Chris ‘Willow’ Wilson three years ago.
Mr Wilson was killed in a chopper crash over the King River in Arnhem Land on February 28, 2022.
The 34-year-old father was dangling from a Robinson R44 in a sling during a crocodile egg collecting mission when the helicopter crashed into the paperbark swamp.
Mr Wilson died at the scene while 28-year-old pilot Sebastian Robinson was left in a critical condition.
It is alleged that on three occasions Mr Wright attempted to compromise the investigation into the chopper crash.
It was anticipated the jury for the high-profile four-week trial would be empanelled on Wednesday, with evidence to begin on Thursday.
However on Tuesday — the day before the jury was to be selected — a Supreme Court spokesman confirmed the jury selection would no longer proceed “as originally expected”.
A new jury selection date has not yet been confirmed.
