‘One of a kind’: Take a look at the newest shop on Nolan’s Block

From the moment they stepped into the Nolan’s Block building, three co-owners of a new store instantly saw its potential. Learn all about them and their unique business here.

When Sydney-siders Kara Champion and her brother Peter Alcock first saw the hustle and bustle of Nolan’s Block in the small town of Crows Nest, they knew instantly it was the perfect place to open their own store.

Teaming up with Toowoomba’s Day & Night Pharmacy owner Melissa Wilson, the trio opened Stuff Designs and have been in business together for almost one month.

Specialising in unique homewares, gifts and furniture pieces which would complement any style.

Both interior designers with different styles, Ms Champion described her brother as having a “very eclectic” taste, while her preference was coastal.

“We’ve really done a nod to the area by incorporating city modern and country pieces like cast iron chairs too,” she said.

“Customers spend a long time browsing because there’s a lot to consume in our store and we sell really one of a kind pieces that you can’t find anywhere else.”

The siblings who are based in Sydney recall being surprised on their first drive to Crows Nest when Melissa showed them the space, but were quickly filled with pure delight.

“We had never been to Crows Nest before and just saw trees everywhere … we were like where are we going?” Ms Champion said.

“But the Nolan’s Block building is just stunning – we saw the potential as soon as we walked in with the high ceilings and stained glass windows and they’ve done such an incredible job bringing it back to life.”

Originally from North Queensland, Ms Champion said the Crows Nest community were supportive, friendly and reminded her of home.

And as for the name, the store owner said it was the perfect way to sum it up.

Stuff Designs is at Nolan’s Block in Crows Nest and is open Thursday to Sunday, from 9am to 4pm.
