A NT Police officer who allegedly raped a young woman at a house party attended by other cops is expected to make a bid to leave the Territory.
The 32-year-old NT Police Sergeant – who cannot be named for legal reasons – appeared in the Darwin Local Court on Wednesday facing multiple sexual assault charges.
It is alleged that on November 9, the off-duty cop and his alleged victim were at a house party with a number of other young police officers when the Sergeant assaulted the woman.
Two weeks after the party his victim texted him saying: “I know it was drunken play, but maybe, just maybe, not cross the line next time”.
He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent, two counts of indecent touching and three counts of gross indecency.
Nearly four months after the alleged rape, defence are still waiting for statements from two witnesses at the house party.
His defence lawyer Peter Maley requested a further adjournment for a further preliminary examination mention on March 12.
Mr Maley acknowledged the matter was likely headed to the Supreme Court, despite his client maintaining the acts were consensual.
He said in the next appearance his client would be seeking a further bail application to “allow him to travel and visit family interstate”.
In his initial bail hearing the 32-year-old was ordered to provide a $10,000 bond, with restrictions on him leaving the Greater Darwin area.
