Two people have died and a third is fighting for life after a crash in Kakadu National Park.

The three men were travelling on the Arnhem Highway about 90km west of Jabiru when the incident occurred.

Police were called to the scene 2.44pm on Thursday March 28 where they located the two men deceased.

The third man was found with serious injuries outside the vehicle and taken to Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brendan Lindner said alcohol was believed to be a factor in the crash.

The road is closed in both directions, with motorists advised to avoid the area overnight.

It comes after police and paramedics launched their Easter holiday road safety campaign to target the Territory’s climbing road toll.

It now stands at 17 compared to three at the same time last year.
