Wadeye officers initially responded to reports of unrest around midday on Saturday, working to separate the groups involved.
Tensions between families escalated into a community-wide disturbance.
Despite their efforts, trouble flared again later in the afternoon, prompting police to call in reinforcements from Peppimenarti and the Territory Support Division help restore order.
While no injuries have been reported at this stage, police remain on high alert as investigations continue.
Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson condemned the violence, stressing that authorities are working closely with traditional owners and local stakeholders to calm the situation.
“This level of violence is simply not acceptable,” she said.
“We are working closely with traditional owners and other stakeholders to enhance community engagement to ease tensions within the community.”
