UPDATE MON JAN 24, 5PM: THE teenager charged with murdering a young man in Mutitjulu has faced court for the first time.

Michael Joshua Patterson’s matter appeared in Alice Springs Local Court on Monday.

The 18-year-old was charged with murder, making threats to kill, and possessing, carrying and using a controlled weapon in the Central Australian remote community on Saturday, January 22.

Police will allege Patterson stabbed a 19-year-old man during an assualt on Saturday morning.

It was earlier alleged the two men were fighting, when the younger man used deadly force with an edge weapon.

The victim suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, leaving the remote community at the base of Uluru in mourning for the young man.

Police allege Patterson who handed himself in to local authorities.

He was remanded in custody, to reappear on Tuesday for a further mention.

UPDATE MON JAN 24, 1PM: A TEENAGER has been charged with murder after a young man was fatally stabbed in Central Australia.

Northern Territory Police have charged an 18-year-old man with murder following the death of a 19-year-old man in the Macdonnell Region on Saturday morning.

Detectives from the Southern Criminal Investigation Branch travelled to the remote community over the weekend to investigate the incident.

Police will allege there were initial reports of an aggravated assault in the remote community.

Police alleged the two men were fighting when the 18-year-old man used an edged weapon.

The victim suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

The 18-year-old man, who handed himself in to local authorities, has been charged with one count of murder and has been remanded to appear before Alice Springs Local Court today.

UPDATE SUN JAN 23, 11AM: A TEENAGER has been arrested in relation to the fatal stabbing of a young man in Central Australia.

NT Police confirmed the 18-year-old man was arrested following the death of a 19-year-old man in the Macdonnell Region on Saturday morning

Police responded to reports of an aggravated assault in the remote community.

It will be alleged the two men were engaged in a physical altercation when the 18-year-old man assaulted the victim with an edged weapon.

The victim suffered serious injuries and died at the scene.

Southern Criminal Investigation Branch detectives travelled to the remote community yesterday to investigate the incident.

The 18-year-old surrendered himself to police and was put in custody.

Police said investigations were ongoing.

INITIAL, SAT JAN 22: A man has died in Central Australia in an incident police are calling “suspicious”.

At 9.10am, NT Police responded to reports of an aggravated assault at a remote community in the Macdonnell Region.

The man was taken to the local clinic where he was pronounced deceased.

The man’s death is being treated as suspicious and the area has been cordon off and declared a crime scene.

Detectives from the Southern Criminal Investigation Branch have been deployed to the area to investigate the death.
