Small businesses who worked on the roof of Western Sydney Airport are stuck in limbo after a major construction firm went bust. They are now pleading with the PM for help.

Subcontractors working under a construction company that has gone bust are pleading with the Prime Minister to cover their losses after working on the government’s Western Sydney Airport project.
Quasar Constructions worked on the roof of the new Western Sydney Airport through a number of subcontractors before going into voluntary administration.
The Federal Government has a contract with agency Aerowest for the new Western Sydney Airport who in turn employ Quasar which in turn employs 145 western Sydney businesses.
The group is calling on the government to underwrite any losses incurred by them and pushing for a suite of new reforms to protect small businesses.
The subcontractors have now been left in limbo and are pleading with Anthony Albanese for compensation after working on the airport.
The National Electrical and Communication Association has written to Mr Albanese, Employee Relations Minister Murray Watt and Infrastructure Minister Catherine King.
“We’ve been promised time and time again that security of payment would receive the attention it deserves while the government has done nothing but handball this important reform from department to department until finally passing it to industry to advise on how best to proceed,“ NECA chief Oliver Judd said.
“We now sit less than 12 months out from an election with the Federal Government seemingly no closer to an outcome capable of protecting our subcontractors.
“Enough of the stall tactics, it’s time for the government to deliver on their promise, enact this
reform, and protect the thousands of construction industry contractors who are sent to the wall
each and every year”.
Mr Judd is calling on the government to create new laws to protect payments to small businesses nationally, ramp up protections against the exploitation of small business and protect small and medium sized businesses that are working for the government.
