A teenage driver has been taken to hospital after a police pursuit through Sydney’s ritzy eastern suburbs ended in a crash overnight.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Hopetoun Ave in Vaucluse shortly before 11.20pm on Sunday.

When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated but was quickly terminated due to safety concerns.

Moments later, the vehicle was found crashed down an embankment on the same street.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital as a precaution.

Three teenage passengers, two boys and a girl, were assessed but escaped without injury.

Police established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
