A man has been charged over his alleged involvement in a kidnapping conspiracy and the theft and supply of high-end vehicles to organised criminal networks.
The man, 21, was arrested Monday at a correctional facility in Silverwater by detectives from Taskforce Falcon — a specialist unit formed to investigate serious organised crime across the city.
The charges stem from an incident on February 27, when officers from Parramatta Police Area Command witnessed three men wearing balaclavas fleeing from a vehicle.
A search of the car uncovered mobile phones, duct tape, flexi cuffs, and a baseball bat, prompting police to refer the matter to State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad.
Detectives will also allege the man played a key role in the theft of a Haval vehicle used in a planned kidnapping, as well as the theft of a Bentley and Rolls-Royce worth more than $800,000 in March this year.
Strike Force Drever was launched to investigate, resulting in charges against three men involved in the alleged kidnapping conspiracy. All three remain before the courts.
Three men have already been charged over their alleged roles in the kidnapping plot.
Following ongoing inquiries, Taskforce Falcon detectives identified the 21-year-old man as a key figure in the vehicle thefts linked to the conspiracy.
He has been charged with aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence in company (involving property worth over $60,000); taking and driving a conveyance without consent; and receiving or disposing of stolen property valued over $5000.
The man was refused bail and appeared in Parramatta Local Court later that day.
