Stephen Munro Cockrill charged after police seize 40kg of cannabis on Anzac Day

A Queensland man has been charged after 40kg of cannabis was allegedly located during a vehicle stop near the New South Wales and South Australian border.

A Queensland man has been charged after 40kg of cannabis was allegedly located during a vehicle stop near the New South Wales and South Australian border.

About 3:15pm on Anzac Day police conducting roadside breath testing on the Barrier Highway, east of the NSW and South Australian border, stopped a Mazda CX5.

Offficers spoke to the driver, 64 year-old Stephen Munro Cockrill, before a search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered 40kg of cannabis, with an estimated street value of $800,000 , inside.

Cockrill, was arrested and taken to Broken Hill Police Station where the Kingston local was charged with supply prohibited drug more than the commercial quantity and possess prohibited drug.

On Saturday, Cockrill’s matter was briefly mentioned at Parramatta Bail Court where he did not enter pleas or apply for bail.

He was remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Broken Hill Local Court on June 10.
