NSW detectives were called to a suburban park in Sydney’s north on Saturday after a member of the public reportedly found the body of a woman.
Police received a call about 3.15pm saying there was a corpse under debris on Myall Road, Mount Colah.
Uniformed police arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area.
Police initially believed it was a decomposed body that had been dumped in bushland by the side of the park, and been covered up with rubbish and leaves.
A large area was cordoned off and a crime scene set up so as not to disturb any evidence in case the body turned out to be a murder victim and forensic officers were needed.
One TV crew put a drone above the park to get footage of what was a possible homicide.
When detectives arrived and inspected the scene, they discovered it was a life-size sex doll.
Police are not appealing for the owner to come forward.
