NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Disaster Recovery Janelle Saffin will be promoted to Cabinet as Premier Chris Minns embarks on his long-awaited reshuffle.
Triggered by the resignation of former transport minister Jo Haylen in the wake of the ministerial driver scandal, the Premier is using the opportunity to freshen up his frontbench.
The Daily Telegraph understands the changes won’t be dramatic, but that Ms Saffin impressed Mr Minns enough over her handling of Cyclone Alfred that she will be given a spot in Cabinet.
It is not clear what portfolio she will get.
It is understood John Graham – who holds a tranche of portfolios – will be losing Roads, which is tipped to be going to Regional Transport and Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison.
Mr Graham will be keeping Transport – which he took over from Ms Haylen.
Other portfolios he holds include Arts, Music, Night-time Economy, and Jobs and Tourism.
The Daily Telegraph understands there are other changes, which Mr Minns will be finalising over the coming days.
It is understood the Premier is not intending to make any changes to the major portfolios such as police and health, held by Yasmin Catley and Ryan Park.
