Former Al Dente employee charged after $600k ketamine parcel sent to cafe in same building as NSW Premier’s office

A former cafe worker has been arrested after a parcel containing 4kg of ketamine was delivered to a restaurant in Martin Place.

A former employee at one of Sydney's most popular cafes, Al Dente, which is in the same building as the Premier’s office in Martin Place has been arrested for allegedly importing a more than $600,000 worth of the party drug ketamine.

A parcel sent to the CBD restaurant was opened by a manager on Tuesday who saw the suspicious packaging and called two special constables who were in the building.

Police allege the package contained 4kg of ketamine, concealed in four resealable bags, hidden within card game boxes addressed to the restaurant.

Police said there is no suggestion anyone apart from the man charged had anything to do with the alleged importation.

On Wednesday police attended a Bondi address where they arrested Giacoma Granzotto, 34, an Italian National who was due to fly out of the country June 23.

Granzotto worked at Al Dente from December 24 until March of this year.

There is no suggestion that the workers or any employees at the establishment had any knowledge of the alleged importation.

He was taken to Day Street Police Station and charged with possess commercial quantity unlawful import: border-controlled drug and is due to face Downing Centre Local Court today.
