Veteran Nine News presenter Peter Overton will remain off the air as he recovers after undergoing surgery to address a lump on his vocal cords.
Overton’s wife and fellow television personality, Jessica Rowe, explained his absence from the 6pm bulletin in an Instagram post on Tuesday.
“As you know Petee doesn’t do Insta - and he wanted me to share some news with you,” she wrote.
“He’s off work for a little longer at the moment after an ENT surgeon discovered a polyp on one of his vocal cords which explains his very raspy voice over the holidays!
“He was operated on and part of his recovery is no talking for now (which is a HUGE challenge for him!!).
“Hopefully he’ll be back to 9news soonish. Big thanks to the great doctors, nurses, speech pathologist and Petee’s wonderful work colleagues.”
Overton’s extended break from the airwaves has already included a trip to Tokyo and Vietnam, as well as his 21st wedding anniversary.
