NSW Police on standby to travel to Israel to interview Max Veifer over Bankstown Hospital nurses video

NSW Police have still not obtained a formal statement from the social media influencer at the centre of the Bankstown Hospital nurse furore and will travel to Israel to meet with him if required.

Update on investigation into NSW Health nurses

NSW Police have still not obtained a formal statement from the social media influencer at the centre of the Bankstown Hospital nurse furore, and will travel to Israel to meet with him if required.

A week after emergency department nurses Ahmad Rashad Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh made sickening slurs against Israeli patients in a chatroom conversation with content creator Max Veifer, police are still in the throes of taking a statement from the key witness.

In a statement on Tuesday, NSW Police said “geographical complexities” were behind the delay.

The Daily Telegraph has been told several detectives from Strike Force Pearl are on standby to travel to Israel to meet with Mr Veifer in person if they are unable to finalise his statement through phone conversations and email, which has so far not been possible.

“As the influencer is in Israel and the video believed to be created in Israel, police need to manage the complexities involved in gathering and producing evidence from an overseas jurisdiction to meet Australian legal requirements for the evidence to be admissible in Australian courts,” NSW Police said in a statement.

Ahmad Rashad Nadir and Sarah Abu Lebdeh, wearing their NSW Health uniforms, were filmed declaring they refuse to treat Israeli people and would "kill them" if they present to their ward.

“Detectives remain focused on resolving the investigation as swiftly as possible”.

Mr Veifer agreed to give police a statement and the full and unedited recording of his conversation with the two nurses, who were on a night shift when they spoke to him through an online chatroom last Tuesday.

NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb has previously said Mr Veifer’s recording and a formal statement from him are critical to the investigation into the two nurses’ conduct.
