A dog attack left Kirra pet shop cat fighting for her life, missing a paw and on the verge of being put down. However, NSW’s most southern coastal community had other ideas.

NSW’s most southern coastal community has come together to save their town’s famous feline after a “traumatic” dog attack left her fighting for life and and missing a paw.

Kirra is Eden’s most famous cat as she spends her days sitting at the counter of pet shop ‘Supply Central’, with many coming in simply to give the former street cat a pat.

Supply Central and Kirra’s owner, Helen Barnes, said her cat is loved by everyone.

This love was recently on full display, after Kirra was viciously attacked by a dog last month while out in the community.

The attack, described as “traumatic” by Ms Barnes, left Kirra with extreme injuries.

Many in the community come to pat Kirra at Supply Central.

“She was going to need to be put down unless she had major surgeries,” Ms Barnes told this publication.

“Kirra came to the shop to be rehomed after fending for herself on the streets for quite some time.

“She chose the shop to be her home and has looked after it as the shop has looked after her.

“Putting Kirra down was not an option.”

A GoFundMe page was created by Ms Barnes to raise $2500 for Kirra’s surgeries, which would include amputating her injured leg.

In less than two days, $2700 was raised.

“It just goes to show how loved Kirra is,” Ms Barnes said.

Ms Barnes said the additional funds would be used for continued care, vet visits and food.

The surgeries were successfully completed on Monday, with Kirra back in her beloved shop, albeit, a little quieter than usual.

“She’s resting at the moment,” Supply Central worker Anthony Doward said.

“She’s on her medication, but we’re very lucky to have her back.

“She’s becoming more active and accustomed to moving around on three paws.”

Ms Barnes said Kirra was not yet in a condition to have visits from the community, but she assured they would be patting their favourite cat again soon.

“If it weren’t for the community loving Kirra, she wouldn’t be here,” she said.

“I am completely stunned with the community’s response, but not surprised as I know how popular this little cat is.”
