A southwest Sydney school has undergone a multimillion dollar transformation for the first time in 20 years to deliver several “world-class” educational facilities for its rising stars.
Stage 1 works at Birrong Girls High School and Birrong Boys High School has been completed with further upgrades to roll out in the following months.
NSW Deputy Premier, Minister for Education and Early Learning and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said: “Delivering these major improvements at Birrong Boys and Birrong Girls High School will provide a major boost for our local students, teachers and local families.”
“These world-class facilities will give students at both schools the facilities they need to meet their full potential at school.”
Brand new teaching buildings have been unveiled at each high school, delivering 13 classrooms and two visual arts workshops at Birrong Girls and 11 classrooms at Birrong Boys.
Birrong Boys has also completed works for wood and metal workshops, three science labs, and two food technology kitchens as well as a new entry, canteen and a refurbished hall.
Birrong Girls will now enjoy access to a new multipurpose hall.
The state funded project has also delivered new covered outdoor learning areas, administration and staff areas, and improved landscaped outdoor areas for both schools.
Member for Auburn Lynda Voltz, who also attended Birrong Girls, said the upgrades were “more than just bricks and mortar”.
“They symbolise our investment in the next generation that will give students the resources to excel,” Ms Voltz said.
Birrong Girls High School Principal Zena Dabaja added: “Birrong is the Dharug word for stars and these new facilities reaffirm that our students can reach for the stars and succeed in any career they are passionate about.”
“These new upgrades in both schools are such an important investment in our local community and will further facilitate the high-quality teaching being delivered.”
The second stage of the upgrades is now underway and will be completed by the end of May. It will deliver further refurbishments including a material learning unit at Birrong Girls and improved general learning areas, student support unit and a fitness centre at Birrong Boys.
