Plans for a major hospital to open within the new Western Sydney Aerotropolis are taking off as the Minns’ government shifts into full gear ahead of the opening of the new airport.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal planning and site selection analysis for the new public hospital, which will be located within the 11,000 hectare hub surrounding Western Sydney International Airport, is underway after a $15 million government investment.

Early planning for the project will begin this year and consider multiple options, including a “full campus” hospital model complete with an on-site childcare centre and health care worker housing.

NSW Health Minister Ryan Park said the funding package delivered on promises made by the government to prepare for the population boom ahead.

“While this process has a way to go, I’m determined to ensure the final product meets the needs of the growing community in South West Sydney well into the future,” Mr Park said.

“Our investment in planning for this hospital is on top of more than $6 billion in health and hospital infrastructure investment under this Labor government for the Greater Western Sydney region.”

As part of the preparation work, the Ministry of Health and South Western Sydney LHD (SWSLHD) are currently developing the clinical services framework for the region, taking into consideration the projected population increases.

Both bodies have agreed to establish an early Virtual Care Hub to get the ball rolling with timing and location yet to be determined.

SWSLHD will also be undertaking planning for additional community-based services and options for an Integrated Health Hub, which works as a “one-stop-shop” for patients to access services such as cancer care, cardiac rehabilitation, occupational therapy and preventative screening at a single location.

Planning will begin this year and will inform the assessment and selection of site options throughout 2026, with the airport due to open in less than 18 months.

The Aerotropolis hospital is only the latest health facility the government has invested in within the Greater Western Sydney area, with main construction works to begin this month on the $540 million Integrated Health Care Complex at Westmead Hospital.

Planning and design are also underway on the $1.3bn New Bankstown Hospital, while major construction milestones are expected in the next two years for the $830m Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct, $1bn Nepean Hospital redevelopment, and $619 Westmead Children’s Hospital redevelopment.
