A pedestrian has been hit by a police car as it raced to the scene of a brawl in busy Kings Cross early this morning.

Police were called to reports of a brawl in the Sydney CBD about 3.10am on Sunday, with officers from Kings Cross Police Area Command among those responding.

But as they drove with lights and sirens blaring along William Street in Darlinghurst they hit a pedestrian who police said in a statement ran out onto the road.

“Initial inquiries have led police to believe a pedestrian ran onto William Street at the same time and collided with the police vehicle,” the statement read.

“Officers assisted the 35-year-old man at the scene before the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

“He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

“The driver of the police vehicle – a constable attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command – was treated at the scene for shock.”

Police said investigations into the circumstances of the crash are now underway and have appealed for anyone with information or video from a dashcam, to come forward.
