A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after crashing into a power pole in Sydney’s Inner West in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A man has been charged with high-range drink driving after crashing into a power pole in Sydney’s Inner West in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The driver was travelling along Stanmore Rd, Stanmore just after midnight when the Kia Sportage left the road and collided with a power pole, leaving the structure toppled over.
Stanmore Rd between Holt St and Merchant Street were closed while emergency services worked on clearing downed wires.
Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were notified and attended the scene where the driver, a 37-year-old man, was subjected to a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station where he underwent a secondary breath analysis, which returned an alleged reading of 0.157.
He was issued a court attendance notice for drive with high-range PCA and his NSW driver’s licence was suspended.
The man will appear at Newtown Local Court on Monday 21 July 2025.
No one was injured during the incident.
