It’s the newest feature of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, but the American lumberjack behind it is no stranger to the iconic event.
Decades after competing here as a woodchopper in 1984, Florida native Lee LeCaptain is back with his son Lyle to introduce Aussies to log rolling.
The performance pits two competitors against each other on a floating log, which spins as they try to keep their balance until their opponent ends up in the drink.
Lyle LeCaptain said it was a unique display.
“It’s kind of cool having my dad here as a built-in tour guide of what it was like in the Stone Age,” he said.
“You guys have the world-famous wood chop here, but we are bringing the water events that you don’t get here that often.”
Log rolling will be joined on this year’s list of Easter Show additions by a new bar, which has turned the Sydney Showground stables into a Nashville-inspired gathering spot.

The HonkyTonk Bar will feature live music, arcade games, burgers, tacos, ice cream and a steakhouse.
There will also be new animals to marvel at when the show opens today in Homebush, including a herd of bison, as well as old favourites, such as the petting zoo and dog shows.
