Gunmen flee after firing multiple rounds as terrified workers run for cover in Gregory Hills
Police have swarmed a Gregory Hills carpark after shots were fired on Friday morning, with witnesses reporting two masked offenders unleashing up to nine rounds before fleeing. No injuries have been reported.
A gunman dressed in a hi-vis vest and fluoro gloves has been captured on camera running from a Gregory Hills carpark this morning, after firing a flurry of shots at a shop front.
Panic erupted in Sydney’s southwest around 8.35am, after gunshots rang out, triggering a major police operation and sending terrified locals running for safety.
Emergency services were called to the car park near World Gym and Service NSW centre on Lasso Rd on Friday morning following reports of multiple shots fired.
Police swarmed the area, urging members of the public to stay away as officers began speaking with witnesses.
A witness said they saw two armed offenders sprinting through the car park.
“I saw two people with balaclavas on their heads with handguns. They were running towards Service NSW and fired about six to eight shots,” the witness said.
“Pretty shocked at the start. I didn’t really know what it was. I thought it was firecrackers at the start, and then I actually saw the people coming. And I was like, ‘Okay, so that’s gunfire.’ So I kind of yelled to the people in store to just get inside and hide.”
A photo of the gunman showed him wearing an orange-hi-vis vest over the top of a black hoodie. His face was disguised by a balaclava, while he also wore a pair of fluoro green gloves. The picture, now circulating on social media, showed the man running through the carpark with a silver pistol in his hand.
Locals reported huddling in back rooms of nearby businesses as the shots rang out.
Police confirmed a significant response is underway but said there are currently no reports of injuries.
A large section of the car park remains cordoned off as officers continue their investigation and search for those responsible.
More to come.
