It took a week to stump up the $600,000 bail money, but one-time brothel boss and alleged drug dealer Eddie Hayson is now tasting freedom ... of sorts.

But don’t expect to run into the colourful identity anytime soon: Hayson’s strict bail conditions - while he waits to fight commercial drug supply charges - mean he must live under house arrest.

Aside from reporting to a Sydney police station twice every day, or attending pre-arranged medical or legal appointments, Hayson, 56, must head straight back to home detention.

He must wear an ankle monitoring bracelet which tracks every movement, and his mobile phone must not have internet access.

The Daily Telegraph spotted Hayson reporting for bail, a week after it was granted by the NSW Supreme Court, because of a delay in coming up with an agreed $600,000 surety.

“I’m going well ... I can’t talk about the case,” Hayson said.

It is the first time he’s been seen since he was arrested on the Gold Coast in February last year and charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group. He is yet to enter pleas.

Police from the Organised Crime Squad were targeting a criminal group, which allegedly used private charter flights and encrypted devices to carry drugs across Australia, when Hayson was arrested.

During his bail application earlier this month, the court heard police allege Hayson was part of a syndicate that transported a suitcase containing 16kg of methamphetamine and 5kg of MDMA from Sydney to Perth in August 2023.

The court heard police would allege Hayson had a “significant involvement in a well-organised criminal enterprise” and, at one stage, was overheard discussing the importation of up to 500kg of drugs into Australia.

Hayson’s barrister, Ian Lloyd KC, told the court the case against the former brothel boss was “weak”, and that his client needed to receive urgent medical attention including ankle surgery, which he was due to undergo around the time he was arrested, as well as dental work.

Hayson is due to return to court on May 8.
