Three co-accused in an alleged $623 million cocaine supply plot have been seen outside of cour for the first time since their high-profile arrests and Supreme Court bail.
More than three months since their arrests, Rodney James Hill, 35, Luke Hazell, 29, and Chaiwat Thipsing, 28, have appeared in Coffs Harbour Local Court in person.
The three men, each accompanied by a support person, sat in different sections of the court and did not communicate.
As they left the court building, Hazell and Hill tried to shroud their identities in secrecy, using face masks, hoods, and glasses, while Thipsing used his jacket to cover his face.
They are among five co-accused facing serious drug supply charges after NSW police intercepted a luxury vessel and allegedly located over one tonne of cocaine off South West Rocks on the Mid-North Coast of NSW on May 9.
Their two other co-accused, Jacob Malcolm, 26, and Cooper Hollingworth, 24, also had their matters mentioned in Coffs Harbour Local Court on Tuesday but did not personally attend.
Hollingworth was granted bail on July 21, while Malcolm remains on remand.
Solicitor Abdul Tlais represented Hill, Hazell, and Thipsing, telling the court police had served their brief of evidence on his office.
He sought an adjournment until September 9, which magistrate Theresa Hamilton granted.
Hill, Hazell, and Thipsing were released after successful bail reviews in the NSW Supreme Court on August 8.
Australian Federal Police Assistant Commissioner Stephen Dametto said police would allege it was a “sophisticated criminal plot to import more than one tonne of cocaine into Australia”.
All five co-accused are charged with participating in a criminal group, contributing to criminal activity, and supplying a prohibited drug greater than a large commercial quantity.
Pleas are yet to be entered.
They face court again on September 9.
