An NRL fan who allegedly threw a meat pie at rival supporters during Saturday’s clash between the Dragons and Bulldogs has been charged by NSW Police, and will be banned from any future games by the league.
The 26-year-old wearing a St George Illawarra jersey was videoed allegedly hurling the pie into a group of rival Canterbury-Bankstown fans while standing on the hill at Kogarah Oval.
Video soon went viral on TikTok sparking a police investigation, which yesterday afternoon resulted in the footy fan being charged.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal in addition to his pending court case, the NRL has issued the fan with a notice of intention to ban him from entering any future venues to watch rugby league.
In a statement, a NSW Police spokesperson said: “A man is due to face court next month after allegedly throwing a pie during a football match at a stadium on Saturday, March 8.”
“Police officers patrolling the stadium were alerted to the incident on the eastern side of the general seating area.
“No injuries were reported, however the pie is believed to have struck several people.
“Following police inquiries, about 4pm on Monday (March 10) a 26-year-old man was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for common assault, and behave in an offensive manner in a public place.
“He is due to attend Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.”
The footage posted on TikTok shows the fan, wearing a Dragons jersey, asking a Netstrata Jubilee Stadium staff member to pick him out a pie before the person filming says “I want that one”.
The man in the jersey allegedly asked if the pie would “look good on a Bulldogs supporter”.
After being encouraged to “say yes”, the staff member replies: “I think so.”
The clip skips to the man in the jersey allegedly hurling the pie into the group of Bulldogs supporters, while others laugh in the background.
An angry Bulldogs fan subsequently stormed towards the camera and pointed out a stain on his jersey, demanding to know if the person filming had taken a video of “me getting hit”.
In a statement after the game, St George Illawarra said the club was aware of the video and “condemned” the behaviour.
“The Dragons condemn any such behaviour in the strongest terms and will assist the NRL in relation to any breaches of the NRL Spectator Code of Conduct,” the statement said.
“The Dragons would like to sincerely apologise to the Bulldogs fan impacted by the incident.
“We will work with the Bulldogs to contact the fan and pass on our apologies directly.”
