The Daily Telegraph’s Power 100 list, released this week, reveals the pecking order in this town when it comes to overt influence.
Does the Premier carry more clout in Sydney than the PM, or is it the other way round?
Last year, both ScoMo and Gladys were pipped by the virus, which we ranked no.1. But not this time. It is on the list, but not in the top 10.
In fact, only two of last year’s top five have held onto spots in that first handful.
Five politicians – including a power couple – have burst into the top 20. One is Labor leader Anthony Albanese.
Two public servants have made their way into this quintessential quintile as well, RBA Governor Philip Lowe and new Police Commissioner Karen Webb.
Four women making their debut in our rankings do so in the top 40.
More than a fifth of the names on the list are new. This is another demonstration of how much extra power is flowing into and through Sydney.
Many of these fresh entries are people who, in a vast array of endeavours, are taking on the rest of the world and winning.
In this way, our rankings are a reflection of more than just overt local power.
They are a catalogue of the growing international stature of our city. Find out who made the cut later this week.
