Just 12 days on from being released on parole, Corey Brian Davis went on a crime spree which would see him target seven commercial business in the space of just 48 hours.

Arrested in December last year, the 38-year-old pleaded guilty to five break and enter offences, with a further break and enter and attempted break and enter charges taken into account.

In Newcastle District Court on Friday, it was heard Davis was out on parole on December 2 last year and it was only two weeks of being released before he offended again.

Over two days on December 14 and 15, Davis hit up a number of commercial businesses across Newcastle, Islington and Hamilton in the still of the night, some one after the other.

But he would not escape with much, some break-ins netting nothing while others a few phones, an ipad and some keys.

In Newcastle West on December 15, he hit two childcare centres, the first at Creative childcare at 12:53am using a screw driver to jimmy the door open before smashing into the St Nicholas centre at 4:33am.

Joblink Plus at Hamilton was another victim where, the court heard, he stole two mobile phones and a Frank Green drink bottle.

Following an investigation, police arrested him on December 17.

His defence lawyer agreed his offences were serious and his criminal history didn’t entitle him to any leniency but there was a nexus between his mental health, drug addiction and his behaviour.

But the Crown solicitor said there was a “high risk” of being back in court again given multiple priors and that he was on parole when he committed the offences.

She told the court it was clear he had drug dependence issues but had been given opportunities before to engage in programs but breached that and went back to prison.

Judge Peter Krisenthal stated that the value of the property was low and agreed his offences were unsophisticated and committed when noone was present in the middle of the night.

He sentenced Davis to three years and seven months jail with a non-parole period of two years and four months.

He is eligible for release in October, 2027.
