They live near the beach, on the north and south coast and leafy Sydney suburbs but have made the mountains and colder climes their field of dreams.

They range from teenagers and debutants to multiple athletes heading to their third Winter Olympics for Australia.

Meet the NSW athletes heading to the Beijing Winter Olympics to wear their green and gold, where they hails from and the events they will race at the upcoming Games.

Females out number men in the 44-strong team with 23 named, including Australia’s first ever female curler Tahli Gill and figure skater Kailani Craine, who both hail from NSW.

AUSTRALIAN MILESTONES AT BEIJING WINTER OLYMPICS 2022

#Britt Cox and Scotty James have joined a group of just six previous Australian winter athletes to have attended four or more Games.

#Phil Bellingham is at his third Games in Cross Country Skiing, equalling the most by an Australian with Anthony Evans (1992-1998) and Esther Bottomley (2006-2014).

#Brendan Kerry at his third Games in Figure Skating is equalling the most by an Australian with Cameron Medhurst (1984-1992), Danielle Carr-McGrath (1992-1998) and Stephen Carr (1992-1998).

#Alex Ferlazzo’s third Olympic appearance in the Luge is the most by an Australian.

#Sami Kennedy-Sim third Olympic appearance in the Ski Cross is the most by an Australian.

#Jackie Narracott selected for her second Games in Skeleton equals the most by an Australian.

AUSTRALIAN OLYMPIC TEAM FACTS AND FIGURES

#Sophie Ash (Moguls) and Gabi Ash (Aerials) are the first sisters to compete on the same Australian Winter Olympic Team.

#Sami Kennedy-Sim (Freestyle Skiing) is coached by her husband and former Winter Olympian Ben Sim.

#Australia will compete in 10 sports/disciplines: Bobsleigh, Skeleton, Luge, Curling, Freestyle Skiing, Short Track Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Cross-Country Skiing, Alpine Skiing and Snowboard.

#The only events Australia will not compete in are Biathlon, Ice Hockey, Ski Jumping, Speed Skating and Nordic Combined.

#Australia is competing for the first time in Curling.

#The average age of the team is 25.43 years.

#NSW’s Valentino Guseli (Snowboard Halfpipe), aged 16 years 315 days when he competes, is the fifth youngest ever male selected.

#In all, around 2800 athletes will compete from 90 plus countries with 109 medal events in 15 disciplines.

#Beijing becomes the first city to host both a Winter and Summer Olympics

#There will be seven new events: women’s monobob, freestyle skiing big air (men’s and women’s), and mixed team events in short track speed skating team relay, ski jumping, freestyle skiing aerials and snowboard cross

Abi Harrigan, 19, is making her Olympic debut in Half-pipe, Slopestyle & Big Air and hails from Jindabyne.

Sami Kennedy-Sim, 33, is competing at her third Olympic Games (2014 and 2018) in Freestyle Skiing Women’s Ski Cross and hails from Manly.
