Relief has washed over the family of Jimmy Barnes after 14-year-old Blake Powell, the nephew of the Cold Chisel frontman’s son, was found safe and well following a two-day search.
Blake was reported missing from Castle Hill shortly before 4pm on Friday, prompting an urgent police appeal and a heartfelt plea for help from the Barnes family, including a social media post by the rock legend himself.
On Sunday evening, The Hills Police Area Command confirmed the teenager had been located.
“Good news for a Sunday afternoon: the 14-year-old boy reported missing from Castle Hill has been found and is safe – thanks to everyone who shared our appeal for help!” police said.
Family member Sean Powell also shared an emotional message of gratitude, revealing more than 6,000 people had shared the original appeal.
“Facebook Fam, Blake is home. We’re so relieved!” he wrote.
“To those who rode the metro, drove around and did laps on foot of the shopping centres — no words can describe our love and gratitude … It felt like a needle in a haystack to find him.”
The family thanked police, the public and Jimmy Barnes for his widely shared plea, which helped bring national attention to the search.
“Life’s not a smooth run,” Sean wrote. “Hug your little ones tight tonight.”
