'Now is not the time to be complacent': Police

TOOWOOMBA detectives are investigating whether the arrests of four known property offenders will curb the recent trend of property crime in the region.

TOOWOOMBA detectives are investigating whether the arrests of four known property offenders will curb the recent trend of property crime in the region.

Three men arrested in relation to a suspected stolen vehicle in the Lockyer Valley on Sunday are the latest in a series of arrests possibly linked to property crime.

One man arrested last week faces more than 60 charges, with more expected to be laid, as the Criminal Investigation Branch continues its inquiries into reported crime.

But it's no time to become complacent.

"Even though these fellows have been apprehended, it is no time to rest on our laurels," Detective Sergeant Tony Morris said.

"Not all the crime has been linked to the same person but they do have the same mindset.

"The case remains that even though one person is in custody we can't relax on solving these crimes."

Det. Sgt Morris said a common thread between the majority of the crimes was vehicles left unlocked and homes unsecured. He urged residents to be mindful of their security measures.

"Remove any items of value from your cars," he said.

"If you remove the temptation and lock your vehicles, they will more than likely walk away."

Opportunistic thieving remains a focus area for police who again urged all to secure vehicles and homes and consider bolstering security systems on their properties.

"The focus on the moment is on property crime and theft of motor vehicles," Det. Sgt Morris said.

"There is a focus on identifying these offenders and prosecuting them.

"We want to make it as hard as we can for those (offenders)."

Charges against the trio arrested in the Lockyer Valley on Sunday were yet to be finalised but are expected to include a raft of driving and unlawful use offences.

Darling Downs Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood said a stolen vehicle was intercepted by police with three men inside, before two of them managed to flee on a motorbike.

Toowoomba Dog Squad officers tracked the two men who were taken into custody and charged near Helidon, he said.
