The victim of a violent home invasion in Woodroffe on April 2 has been identified as 71-year-old Trevor Miller.
Mr Miller was allegedly attacked in his own home with an edged weapon, believed to be a machete, by two boys aged 13 and 14, who were later arrested by NT Police.
The two alleged attackers — who cannot be identified due to their age — appeared at NT Youth Court last Thursday, with the older boy sent for a mental health assessment after claiming he was ‘hearing voices’.
The 14-year-old was also out on bail at the time of the alleged assault — the third time he had been released on bail since mid-December 2024.
The NT News spoke with Mr Miller’s friends and neighbours who described him as a kind person.
A friend of Mr Miller’s since 1990, who asked not to be named, said Mr Miller is “one of the kindest people I know”.
She said Mr Miller was recovering in hospital, suffering a broken arm, broken ribs, significant lacerations and bouts of unconsciousness due to the heavy painkillers he has taken.
“They are keeping him sedated so his body can recover,” the friend told the NT News.
“Both arms are bandaged and broken — one has a plate in it, the other was badly slashed.”
The friend, who spoke with doctors on Monday morning, said Mr Miller was not in a coma, had not lost any limbs or digits and was not suffering from pneumonia — despite what some in the community had been suggesting online.
Sid, a neighbour of Mr Miller’s for the past 16 years, described him as “a good man”.
“He would always lend tools to people and offer his help,” he said.
Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, alleged the two boys were staying nearby Mr Miller at a relative’s home.
The house at which they had been staying was empty when NT News attended and police were contacted for comment.
Mr Miller, a widower, had been an active member of the Palmerston and Litchfield Seniors Association for the past 10 years, with many people describing his generous and kind-hearted nature.
Friends of Mr Miller have organised a working bee at his home while he recovers in hospital.
